भारत के किसी भी पुरास्थल से उत्खनित यह सबसे बड़ा तालाब : प्राचीन भारत की हाइड्रोलिक संरचना का एक नायब नमूना, श्रृंगवेरपुर धाम प्रयागराज In the 1st century BCE, the water harvesting system of Shringaverpur was used to divert flood waters of the Ganges River.

[श्रृंगवेरपुर धाम प्रयागराज - मध्य गंगाघाटी का एक प्रमुख पुरातात्विक स्थल]

प्रयागराज से उत्तर-पश्चिम 22 मील (करीब 35 किमी) की दूरी पर गंगा नदी तट पर स्थित, वर्तमान सिगगौर नामक स्थान ही प्राचीन समय में श्रृंगवेरपुर नाम से प्रसिद्ध था। यहीं पर श्रृंगी ऋषि का आश्रम था। रामायण से पता चलता है कि अयोध्या से वन जाते समय राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण के साथ इसी स्थान पर एक रात के लिए ठहरे थे यहाँ निषादराज ने उनका सेवा-सत्कार किया था। श्रृंगवेरपुर प्राचीन भारत का प्रमुख स्थल है

श्रृंगवेरपुर - धरातल से लगभग 10 मीटर की ऊंचाई वाला एक विशाल टीला। 

               - विस्तार गंगा तट पर । 

               - एक बड़ा भाग नदी के कटाव से क्षतिग्रस्त। 

इस पुरास्थल को पुरातात्विक मानचित्र पर स्थापित करने कार्य शिमला उच्च अध्ययन संस्थान एवं भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के संयुक्त तत्वावधान में के. एन. दीक्षित एवं बी. बी. लाल ने किया। यहाँ 1977-1978 के बीच टीले का उत्खनन करवाकर महत्वपूर्ण संस्कृतियों का उद्घाटन किया गया। यहाँ से प्राप्त अवशेषों से नगर के प्राचीन वैभव पर प्रकाश पड़ता है।

पहली शताब्दी ईसा पूर्व में, श्रृंगवेरपुर की जल संचयन प्रणाली का उपयोग गंगा नदी के बाढ़ के पानी को प्रवाहित करने हेतु।

 • टीले के उत्तर-पूर्व की ओर एक आयताकार तालाब ( सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि) 

• यह तालाब पक्की ईंटों से निर्मित (भवन निर्माण भी इन्हीं के द्वारा होने लगा था)

• लम्बाई उत्तर-दक्षिण की ओर 200 मीटर के लगभग

• उत्तर की ओर से जल प्रवेश एवं दक्षिण की ओर से उसके निकास के लिए नाली।

• पेयजल की सफाई का विशेष प्रबन्ध । 

इस दौरान उत्तर भारत में नगरीकरण अपने उत्कर्ष पर था।

It is located on the banks of river Ganga at the distance of 22 miles (about 35 km) towards the north-west from Prayagraj. Today's Siggaur was famous by the name Shringaverpur in ancient times . It was here that Shringi Rishi's ashram was located. 

It is known from Ramayana that while going from Ayodhya to the forest, Ram, along with Sita and Lakshman, stayed for a night at this place, here Nishadraj welcomed them. 

Shringaverpur is a major site of ancient India.

 Shringaverpur - A huge mound with a height of about 10 meters from the ground level. 

               - Extension on the banks of Ganga. 

               -A large part damaged by river erosion. 

The work of establishing this ancient site on the archaeological map is being done under the joint auspices of Shimla Institute of Higher Studies and Archaeological Survey of India. N. Dixit and B. B. Lal did it. 

Important cultures were uncovered here by excavating the mound between 1977-1978. The remains recovered from here throw light on the ancient glory of the city.

In the 1st century BCE, the water harvesting system of Shringaverpur was used to divert flood waters of the Ganges River.

 • A rectangular pond on the north-east side of the mound (the most important achievement) 

• This pond was made of baked bricks (buildings also started using them)

• Length was about 200 meters from north-south

• From the north side Drain for water entry and its exit from the south side.

• Special arrangements for cleaning drinking water.
